Ideas That Build Tomorrow.

The One Change That Transformed My Sales in Two Months.

About two months ago, I experienced a change I had eagerly waited for. Deep down, however, I almost felt it was impossible.

As a business owner, I spent 80% of my working hours researching and planning how to get my services in front of the right audience. I kept myself busy handling things that did not matter as much. I was spending 80% of my time on activities that brought only 20% of my results.

This is probably what many of you reading this are doing. But don’t worry. Today, the odds have aligned in your favor. In this article, I’ll share what changed my service-based business. Within two months, I went from relying on overdrafts to attracting an average of five clients per week and making KSh 290,000 in monthly sales. Yes, all this happened in two months!

I could start by explaining everything I did wrong. However, if there is one thing we entrepreneurs value, it is having our time respected. My mistakes matter less than the lessons you can apply to your own business.

1. The 80/20 Rule That Changed My Business

The 80/20 rule, commonly known as the Pareto Principle, states that 80% of results often come from 20% of the causes or inputs. In business, this means that a small number of activities can account for most of your results.

You don’t have to do everything right to succeed. Hiring the right team, preparing for a product launch, posting every day, and securing enough capital are all useful activities. However, not every task deserves the same amount of your time.

If these activities do not contribute to your most important goals, you may be jogging on the spot instead of moving forward.

So, what are the few things that can make the biggest difference in your business?

For a service-based business, one of them is online visibility.

You can offer excellent services, charge fair prices, and deliver outstanding results. But if the right people don’t know you exist, how will they become your customers?

You cannot buy from a business you have never heard of. Your potential customers face the same challenge. They are already looking for solutions, but if they cannot find you, they may choose a competitor instead.

This is why having a strong online presence matters. A professional website helps people discover your services, learn about your business, and decide whether to work with you.

You don’t need to be everywhere or spend every waking hour marketing your business. Instead, focus on being visible in the right places and reaching the right audience.

The goal is not to work harder at running your business. It is to make it easier for the right customers to find you.

2. Online Visibility: Turning Strangers Into Customers

One thing I came to understand is that getting customers is not always about convincing people to buy. Sometimes, it is simply about making it easier for them to find you.

Think about the last time you needed a service you had never used before. You may have asked for a recommendation, searched online, or checked social media. Your potential customers do the same thing.

Imagine someone recommends your business to a potential client. That client searches for you online but finds very little information about your services. They cannot see your work or find a clear way to contact you.

Now, compare that with a business that has a professional website. Its services are clearly explained, examples of past work are available, and contact details are easy to find.

Which business would you feel more comfortable contacting?

This is where online visibility becomes important. Being good at what you do is not enough. People also need to discover your expertise.

Social media can help you reach potential customers. However, relying on it alone means depending on platforms whose reach and algorithms you do not control.

A website gives your business a dedicated space online. You can explain your services, showcase your work, share customer testimonials, and answer common questions.

It can also help people discover your business through search engines. To improve your chances, use the words your customers search for and publish useful content. Make sure your website works well on mobile devices, too.

Of course, simply owning a website does not guarantee sales. Your website must communicate clearly, load quickly, and make it easy for visitors to contact you. It should also support your other marketing efforts rather than replace them.

The goal is to make it easier for potential customers to understand your value and take the next step. When your business is visible, credible, and accessible, you create more opportunities to win customers.

3. How I Started Attracting Five Clients Every Week

The biggest change was how I approached marketing. I stopped treating it as a list of tasks to complete and started seeing it as a way to connect my services with people who needed them.

Previously, I could spend hours researching marketing strategies and planning campaigns. I felt productive, but those activities did not always bring me closer to a sale.

I was busy working on my business without paying enough attention to what would move it forward.

That experience taught me the difference between being busy and being effective.

I began to question every marketing activity. Was it helping the right people discover my business? Did it explain the value of my services? Was it making it easier for potential customers to contact me?

If an activity did none of these things, I had to reconsider the time I spent on it.

I also realised that attracting clients requires more than telling people what you sell. They need to understand how your service solves a problem and why they should trust you.

Your online presence can help answer these questions before a potential customer even speaks to you.

For example, a website can introduce your services, explain your process, showcase previous work, and provide a simple way to make enquiries. It can do this while you focus on serving existing clients.

Consistency also matters. One social media post or advertisement will not solve every marketing challenge overnight.

You need to understand your audience, share relevant content, make your business easy to find, and track what generates genuine enquiries.

For my business, these changes contributed to the results I mentioned earlier. Within two months, I was attracting an average of five clients per week and making KSh 290,000 in monthly sales.

These figures reflect my own experience. They are not a promise that every business will achieve the same results within the same period. Your outcomes will depend on your industry, pricing, service quality, market demand, and marketing efforts.

The lesson is simple. Business growth becomes easier to pursue when your efforts focus on connecting with the right customers.

You do not necessarily need to do more. You need to identify what matters, execute it well, and measure the results.

4. How to Apply This to Your Own Business

Start by looking honestly at how you currently spend your time.

If you run a service-based business, ask yourself three questions:

  • How do new customers discover my business?
  • What information do they need before choosing me?
  • How easy have I made it for them to contact me?

Your answers will help you identify where to focus.

Identify Your Most Valuable Customers

You cannot market effectively to everyone. Start by identifying the people or businesses that benefit most from your services.

Consider their problems, needs, and goals. Find out what they search for when looking for a solution.

This will help you create relevant marketing messages and choose the right platforms to reach them.

Make Your Business Easy to Find

Review your online presence from the perspective of someone who has never heard of your business.

Can they quickly understand what you offer? Can they see examples of your work? Are your contact details easy to find?

If someone searches online for your services, can they discover your business?

A professional website can bring these elements together. It gives potential customers a central place to learn about your business and decide whether to contact you.

Measure What Actually Works

Do not judge your marketing success by likes, views, or the number of hours you spend working.

Instead, track enquiries, qualified leads, conversion rates, and sales. These figures can help you identify which activities contribute to business growth.

Over time, you can invest more effort in the strategies that produce meaningful results.

Get Help When You Need It

As a business owner, you do not have to handle every task yourself. Sometimes, the best decision is to work with people who have the skills to help you achieve your goals.

I came to appreciate this through my own experience, including working with a business that helped me strengthen my online presence and present my services more professionally.

It showed me the value of having the right people involved, especially when you need a solution that fits your business needs.

If improving your online visibility is one of your goals, consider what a professionally built website could do for your business.

Take a look at their work, consider whether their approach suits your needs, and reach out to discuss your goals.

You do not have to change everything at once. Sometimes, progress begins with one well-considered decision: making it easier for the right people to find you, understand your value, and choose your business.

Remember, the goal is not to look busy. It is to build a business that consistently reaches the people it is equipped to serve.
